Calculating your Square Feet for Siding
You can calculate your home’s Exterior Square Feet with this square feet calculator. Since this calculator is designed for siding, the normal Area = Length x Width (A=lw) is converted to Area = Length x Height (A=lh). Since house siding is often measured in feet and inches (example: 10 feet and 6 inches) this calculator allows you to enter feet and inches, feet only, inches only or any combination of the two.
When you are considering siding for your home, calculating your exterior square footage is a very wise thing to do. It doesn’t matter whether you are looking at vinyl siding, fiber cement siding, cedar siding or any other type of siding… you NEED to know how many square feet the exterior of your project is. Once you have your home’s RAW Exterior Square Footage (just the areas that will get siding) you can then figure out how much siding you may need.
You might be thinking, "But I'm just going to get Siding Estimates, why would I need to know the Exterior Square Feet of my home?"
The answer is simple.
Because 1) you’ll be able to compare estimates intelligently and 2) so that you can get the best deal possible and not get taken advantage of.
Let’s say you didn’t know the exterior square feet of your home and some unscrupulous siding salesman (yes they are out there unfortunately)… anyhow, let’s say this person duped you into believing your house required twice as much siding as it needed. You’d end up paying double UNLESS you Knew how many exterior square feet your home has. It gives you a “common ground” to begin having conversations about.
REMEMBER: Always get 3 to 4 Siding Estimates to start, for comparison purposes and KNOW your home’s Exterior Square Feet. These two things are key to having a great experience with getting new house siding of any type.
